Talking TRACK University with Valetta Taylor

blog image for Valetta interview

In April of 2020, Management Controls launched TRACK University, an eLearning platform that serves as a distance learning tool for all MCi’s SaaS products. We met with Valetta Taylor, Manager of Training at MCi, to discuss TRACK University and what is coming in 2021.

What is TRACK University and who is it for?

TRACK University is a learning management system for current and new customers of the TRACK Platform. Our current customers can learn more about TRACK functionality while staying informed regarding software updates and releases. New customers can use TRACK University to learn how to use the application by utilizing the videos, quick reference guides, and tests to develop and improve their TRACK Platform knowledge. All customers can use it to acquire a Certification for a particular Persona in TRACK.

What is offered in TRACK University?

Currently, TRACK University offers courses that breakdown content about the different functionality that exists inside of the TRACK application by using videos and quick reference guides. We offer courses as well as a combination of courses that we refer to as Learning Plans to help our Users become Super Users inside of the TRACK application.

Who is using TRACK University (Roles)?

All of the roles inside of the TRACK application would find TRACK University to be a useful tool. This includes Vendor Timekeepers, Track Coordinators, Authorizers or Approvers as well as information for Procurement Managers. I've had several Infrastructure Managers reach out to me and enroll in the Track Admin application to better understand the security and setup of TRACK. I think it's fair to say if you are using the TRACK application, we have something in TRACK University to help you understand it better.

What is the difference between a Learning Plan, a Course, and a Certification?

A Course is simply a single instructional lesson regarding how to use a particular function inside of the TRACK application. A Learning Plan is a combination of courses designed to improve the role of a specific user inside of the application. For example, we have a Learning Plan for Track Coordinators, Vendor Timekeepers, Track Authorizers, and recently a Learning Plan for Procurement Managers.

Users receive a customized certificate for completing an individual Course, Learning Plan, or Certification. Badges are also given to users for how many Courses, Learning Plans, and Certifications they have completed. Another feature is a Leaderboard within TRACK University so users can see where they rank in the amount of courses they have completed. Certificates, badges, and the Leaderboard are all designed to add gamification to TRACK University and add a layer of fun and competition to completing more Courses.

How many users are enrolled in TRACK University?

We currently have over 1600 users inside of TRACK University. On average, 15 to 20 people submit a request for access to TRACK University on a weekly basis.

How many users have been TRACK certified?

Currently less than 1% of users in TRACK University have certifications. We plan to launch a certification campaign in 2021 to increase the certifications inside of TRACK University. Those certifications will be for Track Coordinators, Vendor Timekeepers, and Track Authorizers.

What would you say are the biggest benefits of TRACK University?

I would say there are three main benefits to TRACK University:

  1. You can find the information needed to perform your job within a matter of minutes anytime, anywhere.
  2. When MCi releases software updates to the TRACK Platform, TRACK University has courses specific to the changes that are happening with that release within days of the changes going live on the TRACK Platform. All of the courses related to a software release are grouped together in one Learning Plan.
  3. This tool allows a user to engage in their own personal development and improve their skills on their own time, at their own pace.

What feedback have your heard from users of TRACK University?

I have heard users say that TRACK University is very easy to use and find the courses they need in order to fulfill their jobs. They're also learning things about the application that they were not aware it could do. Users have said they are enjoying the ability to have a quick reference guide at their fingertips which gives them step by step instructions on how to fulfill a specific job functionality.

What are the plans for TRACK University in 2021?

2021 will be an exciting year for TRACK University. All of our TRACK application functionality will be in TRACK University. We will also begin to introduce training on TRACK Anywhere. Soon, we will be introducing the new training platform and training for myTrack. This will introduce new concepts to our current training program. We look forward to keeping you engaged, keeping the information relevant, and improving to ensure the learning experience of all MCi applications are an informative, valuable, and exciting experience for our learners.
